Divorcing an immoral wife

מָצָא בָהּ עֶרְוַת דָּבָר

 D'varim 24.1- דברים

1.’ When a man takes a wife and marries her, and if it shall be that she does not find favor in his eyes because he has found in her some immoral thing, and he wrote her a bill of divorce and gives it in her hand and sends her out from his house-כִּי יִקַּח אִישׁ אִשָּׁה וּבְעָלָהּ וְהָיָה אִם לֹא תִמְצָא חֵן בְּעֵינָיו כִּי מָצָא בָהּ עֶרְוַת דָּבָר וְכָתַב לָהּ סֵפֶר כְּרִיתֻת וְנָתַן בְּיָדָהּ וְשִׁלְּחָהּ מִבֵּיתו (5930=17=8).

The verse can be divided so:
·         When a man takes a wife and marries her, and if it shall be that she does not find favor in his eyes, because he has found in her some immoral thing-כִּי יִקַּח אִישׁ אִשָּׁה וּבְעָלָהּ וְהָיָה אִם לֹא תִמְצָא חֵן בְּעֵינָיו כִּי מָצָא בָהּ עֶרְוַת דָּבָר (2763=18);
·         And he wrote her a bill of divorce and gives it in her hand, and sends her out from his house-וְכָתַב לָהּ סֵפֶר כְּרִיתֻת וְנָתַן בְּיָדָהּ וְשִׁלְּחָהּ מִבֵּיתו (3167 =17 =8).
Rashi comments here that a man is obliged to divorce his wife if he finds that she has acted immorally. This divorce will then prevent her finding favor in his eyes later and make him change his mind (Gittin 90.b).

In this 1 verse there are 8 verbs with a joint gematria of 18:

1.       He shall take-                    יִקַּח=118
2.       And he shall marry-        ובְעָלָהּ=113
3.       And it shall be-                 והָיָה =26
4.       She finds-                        תִמְצָא=531
5.       He has found-                   מָצָא=131
6.       And he wrote-                   וכָתַב=428
7.       And he gave-                      נָתַן=500
8.       And he sent her-            ושִׁלְּחָהּ=349

Psalm No.1

Happy is the Man
אַשְׁרֵי הָאִיש
ׁ827=17=8 or + 2 words=19=10=1

[Translation and Introduction Rabbi Avraham Sutton]
[Gematria Avraham Agassi]

Introduction

The first and second psalms, Ashrei ha’ish (Happy is the man) and Lamah ragshu goyim (Why are the nations in a commotion), are essentially one psalm. As a unit, they provide the key to the entire Book of Psalms. In the first psalm, David, King of Israel, speaks to the individual, and in the second psalm he speaks to the nations of the world. In both he challenges us with the same ultimate choice, thus teaching us that neither the individual nor the collective can be seen in isolation from one another. One person can affect the entire world and change the course of history. The ultimate choice of the individual is thus: Will you wake up and see the truth, or forever sleep your life away? Even now—in the midst of the seemingly absolute darkness of this-world, in the midst of an almost total self-centered materialism—will you begin to perceive God’s Hand guiding history towards the World-to-Come? If you acquiesce, God Himself will teach you His Torah; He will reveal to you the deeper significance of your life, who you are, why you were born. The gates of the spiritual dimension will open up for you right now; you will be blessed; you will attain an incredible closeness with your own soul and with your Creator. Conversely, you may create your own hell; and you will perish from the face of the Earth.

Psalm 1 has 67 words which is the gematria of the word "Bina"-בינה which means "Understanding" from the Metaphysical World, the Eighth Sphira.

(1) Happy is the man [who sees through the façade of this world] who has not [been seduced into] walking/following after the advice of wicked men, who has [even when he stumbles] not stood/lingered on the path of immoral men, and who has not sat [or made his permanent dwelling] with scoffers-אַשְׁרֵי הָאִישׁ אֲשֶׁר לֹא הָלַךְ בַּעֲצַת רְשָׁעִים וּבְדֶרֶךְ חַטָּאִים לֹא עָמָד וּבְמוֹשַׁב לֵצִים לֹא יָשָׁב (3910+15 words=3925=19=10=1)

The verse can be divided so:

  • Happy is the man [who sees through the façade of this world] who has not [been seduced into] walking/following after the advice of wicked men-אַשְׁרֵי הָאִישׁ אֲשֶׁר לֹא הָלַךְ בַּעֲצַת רְשָׁעִים (3636=18 counting final Mem as 600).

  • Who has [even when he stumbles] not stood/lingered on the path of immoral men, and who has not sat [or made his permanent dwelling] with scoffersוּבְדֶרֶךְ חַטָּאִים לֹא עָמָד וּבְמוֹשַׁב לֵצִים לֹא יָשָׁב (1314=1+8 or + 8 words=1322=8).

(2) His desire is rather in [the mysteries of] Hashem’s Torah; in His Torah he meditates- כִּי אִם בְּתוֹרַת יְהוָה חֶפְצוֹ וּבְתוֹרָתוֹ יֶהְגֶּה (2332=10=1 or + 7 words=17=8 or 2892 + 7 words = 28=10=1 counting final Mem as 600), day and night [thus acquiring it as his own for all eternity] - יוֹמָם וָלָיְלָה (177+2 words=17=8 or 377=17=8 or + 2 words=19=10=1 counting final Mem as 600).

(3) [The Torah comes alive within him] like a Tree [of Life] planted by streams of running water, giving forth its ripe fruit in its season, its leaves never withering; [granting him] success in all his endeavors-וְהָיָה כְּעֵץ שָׁתוּל עַל פַּלְגֵי מָיִם אֲשֶׁר פִּרְיוֹ יִתֵּן בְּעִתּוֹ וְעָלֵהוּ לֹא יִבּוֹל וְכֹל אֲשֶׁר יַעֲשֶׂה יַצְלִיחַ (4276=19=10=1).

The verse can be divided so:

  • [The Torah comes alive within him] like a Tree [of Life] planted by streams of running water, giving forth its ripe fruit in its season, its leaves never withering- וְהָיָה כְּעֵץ שָׁתוּל עַל פַּלְגֵי מָיִם אֲשֶׁר פִּרְיוֹ יִתֵּן בְּעִתּוֹ וְעָלֵהוּ לֹא יִבּוֹל (3186=18 or 5206+13 words=5219=17=8 counting final Zadik, Nun and Mem as 900, 700 and 600).
  • [Granting him] success in all his endeavors- וְכֹל אֲשֶׁר יַעֲשֶׂה יַצְלִיחַ (1090=10=1).

(4) Not so those who become trapped in their own wickedness- לֹא כֵן הָרְשָׁעִים (726+3 words=18 or 1936=19=10=1 counting final Nun and Mem as 700 and 600); they are likened rather to chaff blown [and scattered] by the wind- כִּי אִם כַּמֹּץ אֲשֶׁר תִּדְּפֶנּוּ רוּחַ (1476=18 or 2846+6 words=2852=17=8 counting final Zadik and Mem as 900 and 600).

(5) Therefore [because they have sold themselves to evil] - עַל כֵּן (170=8 or + 2 words=10=1 or 820=10=1 counting final Nun as 700), the wicked will not survive in [the face of God’s] judgment; immoral men [will not abide] in the company of the righteous-לֹא יָקֻמוּ רְשָׁעִים בַּמִּשְׁפָּט וְחַטָּאִים בַּעֲדַת צַדִּיקִים (2042=8).

(6) For Hashem knows [and loves] the way of the righteous, while the way of the wicked is doomed [to end in ruin] - כִּי יוֹדֵעַ יְהוָה דֶּרֶךְ צַדִּיקִים וְדֶרֶךְ רְשָׁעִים תֹּאבֵד (1881=18).

The verse can be divided so:

  • For Hashem knows [and loves] the way of the righteous-כִּי יוֹדֵעַ יְהוָה דֶּרֶךְ צַדִּיקִים (624+5 words=17=8 or 1664=17=8 counting final Mem and Kaf as 600 and 500);
  • While the way of the wicked is doomed [to end in ruin] - וְדֶרֶךְ רְשָׁעִים תֹּאבֵד (1257+3 words=1260=1+8).

The Consequences for not Conquering the Land
וְאִם־לֹא תוֹרִישׁוּ אֶת־יֹשְׁבֵי הָאָרֶץ מִפְּנֵיכֶם

55. ’But if you will not drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you then those that you shall let remain shall be as needles in your eyes and as thorns in your sides and they shall harass you in the Land in which you dwell-וְאִם לֹא תוֹרִישׁוּ אֶת יֹשְׁבֵי הָאָרֶץ מִפְּנֵיכֶם וְהָיָה אֲשֶׁר תּוֹתִירוּ מֵהֶם לְשִׂכִּים בְּעֵינֵיכֶם וְלִצְנִינִם בְּצִדֵּיכֶם וְצָרְרוּ אֶתְכֶם עַל הָאָרֶץ אֲשֶׁר אַתֶּם יֹשְׁבִים בָּהּ (14827 +23 words=14850=18 counting final Zadiks and Mems as 900 and 600).

The verse can be divided so:
·         But if you will not drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you- וְאִם לֹא תוֹרִישׁוּ אֶת יֹשְׁבֵי הָאָרֶץ מִפְּנֵיכֶם (2259=18 );
·         Then those that you shall let remain shall be as needles in your eyes and as thorns in your sides and they shall harass you in the Land in which you dwell-וְהָיָה אֲשֶׁר תּוֹתִירוּ מֵהֶם לְשִׂכִּים בְּעֵינֵיכֶם וְלִצְנִינִם בְּצִדֵּיכֶם וְצָרְרוּ אֶתְכֶם עַל הָאָרֶץ אֲשֶׁר אַתֶּם יֹשְׁבִים בָּהּ (10638=18 counting final Zadik and Mems as 900 and 600).
Rashi comments here that those that will remain in the Land will cause you harm and harass you.

As written in black and white in the Torah this is precisely what is happening now in the Land of Israel to the Jewish People as a punishment for them not expelling the inhabitants of the Land after the 1948 and 1967 wars. If the leaders of Israel then had heeded to these fundamental words of the Torah, of Rashi, and of all the Sages throughout the generations, the Jews of Israel today would be in a far better position and free from terror.

The Ohr HaChaim HaKadosh explains this verse with Divine insight in his commentary on the Torah, that:

Not only will they take the part of the Land that you have not yet taken, but the part that you have taken as well, and they will harass you saying “Get up and leave it”!

The plain truth is here for all to see! The king is truly naked!

Pins
שִׂכִּים
370=10=1

Thorns
צְנִינִם
800=8 or + 1 word=801 (Mem 600)

As pins in your eyes
לְשִׂכִּים בְּעֵינֵיכֶם
602=8 or + 2 words=10=1

And as thorns in your sides
וְלִצְנִינִם בְּצִדֵּיכֶם
1556=17=8 or + 2 words=19=10=(Mem 600)

And they shall harass you in the Land
וְצָרְרוּ אֶתְכֶם עַל הָאָרֶץ
1359=18

56.’And it shall be that what I intended to do to them, so will I do to you-וְהָיָה כַּאֲשֶׁר דִּמִּיתִי לַעֲשׂוֹת לָהֶם אֶעֱשֶׂה לָכֶם(2358=18).

The warning here in the Torah could not be more direct and clear. If you the Jewish People, when you come into the Land, do not rid the inhabitants from it then I Hashem will rid you from the Land. The choice then is put by Hashem into the hands of the Jewish People-either to do Hashem’s Will and keep the Land of Israel or disobey Him and lose it. It’s that simple.

It is no coincidence that these words are being written on the very day (7th Tammuz 5772-26th June 2012) that the residents of the “Ulpana” neighborhood in Bet-El are being evicted from their homes. The Jewish People have to repent.

However, at the second time of writing, today the 7th of Nissan 5774, it appears that the pathetic “peace” process currently led by the Edomite John Kerry has collapsed. This is none other than a small miracle and the tide may be turning for the better as more and more Jews realize that only on Hashem can we rely for our salvation in the "Footsteps of Mashiach"- בעקבות משיחא (Sotah, end).

For on who can rely? Only on our Father in Heaven!
ועל מה יש לנו להשען? על אבינו שבשמים

And you shall safe-keep.......to perform them

וְשָׁמַרְתָּ ......לַעֲשׂוֹתָם

11. ’And you shall safe-keep the Commandment, and the Statutes, and the Ordinances, which I command you this day(in order) to perform them-וְשָׁמַרְתָּ אֶת הַמִּצְוָה וְאֶת הַחֻקִּים וְאֶת הַמִּשְׁפָּטִים אֲשֶׁר אָנֹכִי מְצַוְּךָ הַיּוֹם לַעֲשׂוֹתָם (7319+12 words=7331=14=8 counting final Mems and Kaf as 600 and 500).

The verse can be divided so:
·         And you shall safe-keep the Commandment, and the Statutes, and the Ordinances, which I command you this day-וְשָׁמַרְתָּ אֶת הַמִּצְוָה וְאֶת הַחֻקִּים וְאֶת הַמִּשְׁפָּטִים אֲשֶׁר אָנֹכִי מְצַוְּךָ הַיּוֹם (5913=18 counting final Mems and Kaf as 600 and 500);
·         (In order) to perform them- לַעֲשׂוֹתָם (846=18 ).
Rashi comments here that the performance of them istoday in this world and the reward is given tomorrow in the World to Come (Eruvin 22.a).

These words are proven by the following gematriot:
